Instrumental recordings of koni or bala playing are rare, except for sporadic field recordings. Increasing interest outside Africa, however, appears to be stimulating releases, including a comprehensive set of three CDs recorded by one of Guinea's finest bala players, El Hadj Djeli Sory Kouyate, and a trio called the Ivorys (1987-disc) consisting of two balas and one kora.
