(Suwaresi)

"Great pleasure is expressed by tears..."

Suwaresi is another composition from Kita which was adapted by Sory Kandia Kouyate, a legendary Guinean singer of the 50s and 60s. Kouyate was often accompanied on the Kora by Sidiki Diabate. Diabate explained that the ancestor of the Suware was the first black man to go to Mecca. When people saw him leave on his horse they said: “a filè sowareware kan” or “look at him on his multicoloured horse”. Therefore his family was named Suware.

(Souaresi)

This is a classic djeli song about the Souare family. "Camarin Ba" are those great heroes who gave enormously of themselves for the love of their people. There have been several great leaders who gave of themselves so that others could survive. Missia sings about several, including Sekou Touré (Guinea), Felix Houphouet-Boigny (Côte d'Ivoire), Abdou Diouf (Senegal), Sangoulé Lamizana (Burkina Faso), and Moussa Traoré (Mali).
